About

I am inspired by the wonder of nature - both universal and human – and I explore the human condition as if it were a landscape in and of itself. The inner realm features in all my work - specifically, the interior world from which we process all things, and the states of mind into which we all continuously drift.

I rarely approach a piece with a preconceived idea other than to convey how I am feeling in the present moment. I start with the colour palette, and use shape and pattern to capture the feeling inside.

Sometimes a recognisable image such as an animal, a face, or an object will emerge and I respectfully allow it to guide me. My art is an expression of me, but my intent is to connect to something shared; something which is deeper than just my own personal experience or perspective. Often, my audience will see something I haven’t seen myself.

Most of my pieces are created within a few days of inception to help capture, as best as I can, the state of mind from which they were first borne. The feelings change continually, of course, but just like the cycle of a weather pattern can take a few days to complete, so too can our moods and feeling states. It is this ebb and flow that I wish to capture, convey, and express.

I am fascinated by unusual colour combinations, patterns, and fine detail - much as you would find in nature. I like to use simple materials, such as art markers, acrylic pens and a wide variety of ink pens on good quality, fine grain watercolour paper - anything that can be transported easily and used without fuss.

My Style

I am a self-taught artist, based in London.

For much of my early life, I spent hours engrossed in some art project or another but slowly, over time, the business and busyness of life took over and my art took a back seat - although it would be fair to say that I have gamely doodled my way through every academic and vocational training I ever done.

I grew up in a literary household with a strong appreciation for the arts. I emigrated from the UK to Canada as a teenager, but returned after university to attend drama school and become a professional actress.

In 2020, after a significant life change and a 20-year hiatus, I rediscovered my passion for creating art again.

In September 2024 I held my first solo exhibition.
